THE LEGACY OF
ERIC MONTE
THE GODFATHER OF BLACK TELEVISION
The Legend that Hitchhiked from Chicago's Cabrini Green Projects to Hollywood and Revolutionized American Televsion Forever. The Man who told the Studios to "Get Redd Foxx". The Writer and Creator who wanted to see black families shown as more than stereotypes; and turned that One Passion into what we now Know as Classic Black Television.
He First Wrote & Created The Jeffersons Characters: George & Weezy for an Episode of "All in the Family". Next he wrote the script called: "The Black Family" which would go on to become what we know as the "Cosby Show". He faught the Biggest Studios for proper representation and finally got his big break with the Smash Classic: "Good Times" from there he tackled the big screen and wrote a story based on his life called "Cooley HIgh". While working on Cooley HIgh he would have to watch as Studios created "Jeffersons" without him using the story and characters he himself had spawned. During that time he would work on the Pilot for his first Production under his own Production Company called: "Whats Happenin" A phrase he still uses til this day. This again was stolen from him by producers and studios. People ask how could a man of this level of telent be robbed of his Intellectual Property. Remember this was the 1970s and there was no room for a smart militant black man in Hollywood.
Today he is the Inspiration for many including his loving Daughter Cynthia Crisp. Who Created Eric Monte Productions to continue his legacy building a production company for the next generation of Black creatives. Thier goal is to NEVER allow what happened to Eric happen again. Eric Monte's Legacy lives in every black creative worldwide and We here at Eric Monte Productions are in support of them ALL!
